Hello, i also had that problem in the lichess app under Android. The "switch" instantly turned back on left position when i tipped on it, it seemed that the player, whom i desired to follow had blocked that function.
But a few hours later i saw the little 3-persons-icon marked with orange 1: The player i wished to follow was online. So it is only a small problem of false displaying.
