It would be interesting if Lichess allow players - if they want - to play games only with people of the same country or players who speak the same language. Maybe it will help people to learn with each other and many other beneficts.

I agree that it would be nice. It's just that one should expect much longer pairing time. As for now, I believe the best way to play and learn with people that speak the same language and/or live in the same country as you is to reach them through a team.

Sorry but I think it would only encourage division & segregation, so I'm not personally thrilled with this idea. Surely there's other ways for you to reach out to other players with the same country/language on lichess (forums, teams, follows, or something else I'm not thinking of).

As far I know based on my online games experience, people need to play with their compatriots in order to be more happy and competitive. There's also a litle problem with "global" mode: there are lots of people who can't speak english. And most important: there's no burocracy to code a feature and delete it if no sucess. Why not give a try to see what happens?

I'm not sure that a code change is required either -- just join a "country" team to meet players, regardless of who you play against (or whether someone on that team creates a tournament and only invites teammates).
