Do people take correspondence games serious?

#1

Yes, I had a similar experience in correspondence here. Many easy games, many time outs. My correspondence rating quickly got very high because I take my time and play very seriously (most of the time!). I stopped playing to concentrate more on otb/live style play, but I really should start some games back up again.
I use the analysis board to calculate moves. it is an awesome tool, because you can also save lines, so you will premove many moves if you can predict the moves of your enemy.

Also i wouldn't agree that only weak players play correspondence. I am currently playing against LM ChessInstinct who is one of the strongest players on lichess.
but maybe there is a bit of truth in that. i think most of the strong players prefer blitz games.
The correspondence ratings on Lichess are inflated, but a lot of us take the games seriously. Not everyone wants to play blitz.

I can say I'm surprised by the number of correspondent opponents who are timing out or dropping pieces to obvious tactics (inflating my rating even more). Correspondence games are a great way to knock off the rust and test new openings, especially for those of us who don't have uninterrupted chunks of time (I have two young kids).
Nimzofish i would like to play with you. challenge me please
Folks play CC for different reasons. Some enjoy the deep analysis and alternate lines - spend hours/days on a move, others because it fits their free time - spend a few minutes a move. I'm more the former (and getting on in years - need the extra time)
