Restrict opponents pool

Is there any way to avoid playing:

1. Any opponents who have not played X games with the particular time control. Reason - to avoid losing gazillion of rating points to much stronger player who has way lower rating just because.

2. Players from Russia. I have no idea why lichess supports ruzzian invasion in Ukraine, but I have no desire to pretend this is normal.

A) NO, because you once also were a new player who wanted to find opponents and not be cancelled by everyone because "oh no, question mark". Also glicko system subtracts less points if you lose to a 1500? than if you lose to a stable 1500.

B) don't act like they did? lichess.org/blog/Yie1MhIAACAAk6OQ/lichess-statement-on-the-war-in-ukraine

I mean, you can abort games for both reasons, but you risk sanctions if you overdo it.

Thanks for the reply. But not convinced that A) is true, I for sure lost double-digits to players rated <1000?
As for B), that's exactly what I meant. Lots of weasel words, to cover "lets support the war pretending that we care about some freedoms". How about freedom of the Ukrainian kids to live peacefully? I assume the number of players from russia on this server forces them to ignore moral values, "too big to fail".

You don't get your way. There's been countless threads on this subject before. Russian players, even if they show the flag, are not official competitive representatives of Russia. They're private persons playing chess.

I can relate if you don't enjoy seeing players from Russia, but anything beyond that is just petty attitude.

If you abort you get the same consequences as everyone else. A few occasional aborts are tolerable, many are not.

I plan to create an userscript for your point 2. Restrict player from specific countries but it will only work for lobby games and non Quick pairing / tournament.
I understand, i dont want any kind of contact, even a chess game, with people that support such kind of atrocity. Let them play together and go black to age of stone as Garry Kasparov said about russian that support this USELESS war. Slava ukraine

Whether lichess restricts russian players or not makes no difference in the war as all those people will still fight and die.
And if you say we do it to make a statement just like all the other countrys in the world saying stop the war putin which has done nothing best lichess can do is support charties saving lives

When a LOT of sport orgs ( like the FIFA and so on ) banned RU teams, did you call it racism also ?

It can hardly be "racism", Russia is a country, not a race. (Just wanted to point that out, I do not want to be dragged into the flame if it's a good idea or not.)

Seems that a lot of russian citizen agree with putin program.
