CloudPaper, you do make a good point. While it is hard not to judge people by color, our color can reveal quite a bit.

The pieces are black and white is for the players to easily recognise which pieces are your and which are your opponent. In a game like chess which needs hard and deep thinking one needs to easily read the pattern of chess pieces on the board. Therefore chess pieces not only must have great contrast against each other, the square pattern on the board must also contrast against the chess pieces for easy reading of the sport/game. Yes one can have any color of chess pieces and board as long as it is contrast against each other for easy reading of the board. Thank you, friends
